BECKY RECTOR
had, and has, music in her bones! Her love for homespun music began as a toddler,
singing and dancing on the front porch, as her dad played Harmonica. Becky learned to play Clarinet
at the age of 9. Her passion for music continued as she played her clarinet through
high school and sang in the choir in both high school and College.
When it became apparent that she had more music in her than just an interest for group singing, Becky became serious about her voice, and began vocal training in 1977.
Perhaps it was records, radio or television, but Becky wanted to sing Country
music! She joined a Country band and sang every song that singers like Willie Nelson, Amy Irving and many other artists recorded. Through it all Becky developed her own distinctive, and captivating, voice and style.
When Becky married her soul mate Ray, their musical talents combined to
create a musical journey together. Traveling with their Classic/Oldies Rock band, "Thee Rector
Set", they had a blast entertaining the folks with the likes of "Rockin'
Robin" and "Pink Shoelaces". When it was time in 1995 to
finish raising their family, this musical duo took their musical talents
to their church choir and orchestra.
Then in 2002 Becky and Ray began attending Bayside Church with yet another
musical group in mind! "D'Vine Rhythm" was formed with a special
approach to worship ministry. Audiences of all ages have enthusiastically
responded to their energy and musical talent!
Becky is always ready to minister through music. For example, the disabled
have been blessed via "Through The Roof" ministries as she
serves with them. Becky was thrilled to teach, instruct and conduct choirs totaling several hundred children. Becky treasures these times as
high points in her musical journey.
A particular genre of music which has Cajun roots has intrigued and captured Becky for years. That music is "Zydeco". It is no surprise
that a new band has been formed to promote her love for that music. Becky
is the "front" for the group. Her fire and enthusiasm bring
an unbridled explosive excitement and electricity to their music. Becky can bring a burst of soulful energy with the magic of the Bayou one minute, and then touch everyone's
heart with a beautiful love song the next.
Becky recently
became a member of the prestigious group of musicians that have demonstrated
their professional proficiency, and received her “Gold Card”, as a Vocalist, at the Sacramento
Traditional Jazz Society.
Becky feels that Z.O.O.M. aka: ZydecoOnOurMind has
blazing heat radiating from each member of the band. She uses every ounce
of her energy to bring out the best the band can produce. The results are
very exciting and entertaining. Becky and ZydecoOnOurMind must be seen and heard to experience
their joy! |
